Howdy!
How is your day going so far? Things are going well here so far. I have got Chris settled and relaxed but he is chatting up a storm right now.
Here is a bit more about our trip to Nice,France. Enjoy!
27 Jul 12
We got up at about 8:00am and we grabbed a cup of coffee and a very light breakfast. So light I don't remember what I had, smile.
We were waiting on Odette's grand daughter (Lexi) and her boyfriend (Douglas) to arrive for our trip to Nice.
Lexi doesn't speak English but her boyfriend Douglas does. They arrived and we tackled the upward climb to the Village of Levens to catch the bus to Nice. We listened to the two teens chatter in French and Douglas would chat in English to us as well. Douglas is 17 years old and Lexi is 13 years old.
We boarded the bus for 1 Euro and we enjoyed the 45 minute ride to Nice. Once we got to Nice we transferred to a tram that was great to head for the section of town where there were lots of shops, restaurants, and teeming with people. It was way cool!
We walked around looking for an elephant figurine for Bobby. We wanted one that was made in Nice and not in China or somewhere else. We found one that was handcrafted and hand painted in Nice. It cost 24 Euros and well worth it. We know that Bobby will love it.
We walked around the streets and looked at many market vendors that sold all kinds of things from fresh food and produce to just about whatever you could think of. It was great.
All of the walking made us all hungry. We stopped at a outside pizza place so we could eat and people watch. One of our favorite pastimes.
We ordered our pizza but with a twist to it. You are not allowed to share a pizza like we do hear in the states. So we each had to order a pizza and we did. Yes, that's correct there were four pizza's sitting on our table. Wow! Elise and I ordered a few glasses of red, of course, and the kids ordered cokes.
We did not finish our food, none of us did. Now hold on to you wallet, OK? There is no such thing as a (doggy bag) so we had to leave what we did not eat. Sad,eh? Hey,we are not in the USA,so the leftover food was just tossed away. It made our hearts and stomach rumble, yes it did. Smile!
After eating we decided to separate and explore on our own. We would meet back up at 3:30pm at the pizza restaurant to head back to Odette's.
Elise and I walked around the markets and we bought a few gifts for our caregivers. We walked to the beach and it was loaded with people. The beach did not had sand like ours, instead it was rocky and rocks lined the shore. Did not look comfortable at all,but when in Rome, eh?
We walked along and we took many pics of the beach activities. One picture I took was and still is my favorite is of a lady laying on the beach sunning. If you zoom in to the picture you will see why I like this picture so very much. I would have not noticed it if Elise hadn't brought it to my attention. All of a sudden I loved the beach a lot. WooHoo!
We saw a McDonald's and we were tempted to go in and try it. I have found that the burgers are different than what we have in the states. I was also tempted to go into a casino that we saw as well, but I keep myself under control.
We got back to the market area and we got some gelato and we sat down to do some more people watching. There were people from everywhere walking around, it was fantastic.
We met up with Lexi and Douglas at 3:30pm at the pizza place so we could walk to the bus stop. It was about 9 blocks away and it was very hot out. We were getting really thirsty. We got to the bus stop and it began to rain just a little. Douglas insisted on paying for the bus ride home and he did.
We made the downhill trek back to Odette's and we thanked Lexi and Douglas for going with us to Nice. It was about 5:15pm when we got back to Odette's and our stomach's were starting to rumble, yes they were. All of that walking really makes one thirsty and hungry.
Elise opened up a bottle of red and we had some bread and mortedella and it was so good. Olivia has been in bed most of the day due to she was not feeling well. Her legs ached and her wrist hurt as well. She was very tired indeed.
Later Elise and I followed the Olympics on TV and it was very interesting. Later after Olivia arrived home from work we had a light dinner and of course some more red as well. We were up chatting until about 9:30pm or so and we called it a night. We knew that we were going to sleep soundly after all of today's activities.
Here are a few pics of today's adventure in Nice,France.
