Good Night,
How has your day been? Things have been rolling along at a slow pace here in Tucson. We just finished dinner and I am caring for Chris. Elise has just left to play bridge at her Mum's. We are being rained on here in Tucson and that is always a very good thing for us. Well, here is a bit more about our mini-vacation to Alamogordo, New Mexico.
We departed from Tucson at around on the 18th of Feb 10. Kecia is caring for Chris while we are away. We are listening to a book on CD called Help and it is very good. We stopped in Wilcox at a truck stop for breakfast. Elise had eggs, potatoes and toast. I had eggs, pork chops that I shared with Elise, and potatoes. We got back on the road and we arrived in Alamogordo at 2:10pm. We are staying at a Super 8 that has been remodeled. The rooms have been redone, new drapes, tile, carpet etc. They are even redoing the lobby area with some great floor tile. The weather is nice and sunny, but cool. After we got settled in our room we took a walk around town for a while to see what was available.
We stopped by the theatre to pick up a couple of movie tickets for this evening before dinner. We saw the Edge of Darkness with Mel Gibson and it was very good and a bit scary. We returned to our room and we were very happy that the Wildcat's game was going to be on TV here. We went to a place called Pepper's for dinner it is right next to the Super 8. The food was great and it reminded us of Cody's Beef and Bean here in Tucson. Elise got the pork fillet wrapped in bacon, a salad, and a baked potato. I had the catfish, rice, and salad. We shared a carafe of red. Excellent meal. We returned to our room and we called it a night.

We started the day at around 7:30am and we slept very well. I made coffee and we got dressed. We left for breakfast. We ate a place called Alamo Grill and it was good. I had the pork chops and let me tell you they were very tender, way better than yesterdays. I also had eggs and toast. Elise had ham and eggs. We threw back a few cups of coffee as well. After breakfast we went to the visitor's center and we got info about Alamogordo. It has about 38,000 people and it is supported by Holloman Airbase and White Sands Missile Range.
Then we left for Lowe's a local grocery store and we bought some Havarti cheese, pepper jack cheese, and some Genoa salami, bread, carrots and Cheetos. We were all set for our trek to White Sands, we had a very nice time in and on the dunes. We walked the dunes and we slide down the dunes a few times on a plastic sled we bought. After that we had lunch at the dunes and we had some red wine that we brought us in a bota bag. After a few hours there we drove back to town and bought tickets for the movie Shutter Island with DiCaprio. The movie was excellent and we recommend that you go to see it.
The movie was 2 and 1/2 hours long and by the time it was over it as after 9:00pm and all of the eateries had closed. So we returned to our room and we had leftover cheese, salami and a few Jack and Cokes. We are planning on eating Mexican food tomorrow before the Cat's game. We called Kecia to see how things were going and everything was just fine. We read for a short while and then we called it a day.

We started the day off by having a cup of coffee prior to finding a place for breakfast. We drove to Lowe's Market and we parked the truck in the parking lot. Then we walked all over the surrounding neighborhood starting with New York Ave, which used to be a popular place to shop when things were jumping. It is kind of empty and deserted now and most shops are vacant. Then we walked down Delaware Ave, Virgina Ave, and after about 45 minutes we returned to the truck. We drove around looking for a place to have breakfast because we didn't want to eat a Denny's. We stopped at an Applebees and and it was open but it was having a special pancake breakfast for a charity fundraiser so we left. We drove around for a while in the foothills and by the college. We were starting to get hungry so we stopped at the place were we had decided to have dinner this evening. La Hacienda. We were glas we did because the breakfast was great.
I had the steak ranchero with eggs and potatoes, Elise had the a red chile con carne with eggs, potatoes and we both had corn tortillas. The food was divine! We had coffee but Elise wanted a Margarita. I persuaded her to wait until this evening when we return for dinner. After that we went to Wal-Mart to buy some RV Wheel covers for Chris's van to protect the tires and we bout some diet coke as well. The weather is still sunny but a bit crisp and cool. We played computer games most of the afternoon and of course we had a few Jack and Cokes. We received a call from Kecia letting us know that Rosemary was not going to show to relieve Kecia due to a friend of hers husband had passed away suddenly. Kecia was fine with continuing to care for Chris.
We left for dinner at 5:00pm and we returned to La Hacienda and once again we were pleased with the meal. We each got a Margarita. Elise had 3 tacos with rice and beans. I had 3 chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. We had chips and salsa as well. We were stuffed to the gills and all for $23.00. Excellent! We returned to our room and we played computer games until around midnight. We also threw down a few more Jack and Cokes. We could not find the Wildcats game on TV because it did not come on until Sunday afternoon. We called it a night.

We got up at around 8:30am and I went to the lobby for coffee for the both of us. We got dressed and we began to pack up for the trip back to Tucson. We checked out at around 9:30am and we stopped in Las Cruces to eat.We got home at around 3:00pm and we unpacked and took as short break. We checked to see how Chris and Rosemary were doing. We then left for Oregano's for pizza and and a bottle of red. We go to Oregano's every three months for pizza and red. While we are there we also grab a couple of Bellini's as well, and they are really good. It was the perfect way to end our short but very relaxing mini-vacation. We are looking forward to our next adventure together. It was a very good trip.
The photos are of our visit at the dunes, it was a lot of fun there.
Cheers...........

Awesome photos! At first I thought it was snow! But I thought, the way they'[re dressed, they'd be freezing!!! Glad you had a good time...
