How are things going so far for a Monday? So far so good here in the desert. Well here is the info I promised about our short trip to Las Vegas. Enjoy!
24 April 12
We left home at around 7:00am, John is here to care for Chris while we are away in Sin City. We arrived in Phoenix at around 9:00am. We stopped for breakfast at the Waffle House.
We had plenty of coffee and Elise had the ham and eggs and I had the pork chops and eggs. It was all good. After breakfast we stopped at a Circle K to get a couple of drinks before we hit the road again.
We are off and running. We were making good time and then it happened. We were stuck in traffic. It seems like every time we head for Vegas we get stuck in traffic for some reason or other. This time we were stalled in traffic outside of Kingman. The reason being their was a semi-truck on fire and it was burning really good.
We were stuck in a long line of cars and everyone was getting out of their cars to watch the truck burn. The flames were spectacular. One fire truck arrived and then other came to help. Their were several police cars around as well. They were trying to keep the fire from getting into the desert foliage because if that had happened it would have been terrible. We were stalled for about 40 to 50 minutes. What a fire!
We finally got moving and as we drove by the truck you could not recognize it as being a truck, it had burned to the ground. We don't think that anyone was hurt. We finally arrived in Vegas at the MGM Grand. We got checked into our room and what a room it was. It is now 4:00pm.
We got one of the new renovated rooms and it was very nice, wow! In the room there is a fridge filled with goodies that are priced beyond belief. There is a 200ml bottle of Patron Tequila that cost $32.00. A bottle of water is $5.00. A bottle of Grey Goose is $30.00 and it is only a 200ml bottle. A package of fancy chocolate coins are $12.00. Now you see why we take along our own booze, eh? While we were on the road we listened to a book on tape. It was very good and touched our memories of dying parents and life transitions.
So after we relaxed and downed a few Jack and Cokes we went down to the casino. We played the slots for 6 hours and we were having a great time. Pulling the handles and having the hostess to bringing us those free Jack and Cokes, smile!
We started to get a bit hungry so we stopped in the food court for a bit to eat. We had decided to eat on the cheap this trip so we ate at Mickey D's for dinner. It was good and the court was packed so we were not the only one eating on the cheap, smile! After we ate we returned for more slots and more Jack and Coke. We spent about $300.00 and we ended up with $330.00, so we were ahead a little bit.
We returned to our room to call it a night. It has been a good day so far at the MGM Grand. I will end it here and I will post the next day later in the evening.
Later.....Jessie & Elise
The pics above are of the fire on our way to Kingman. That is us in the blue Prius. Elise is striking a pose next to the Prius. We will post pics of our room in the next posting.
