Good Morning
Mood: Cautious
Music listening to: Funky Good Time by James Brown (classic R&B)
Monday Again! How are you doing? I started the day off at 4:55am caring for Chris. Elise is not in her cave this morning and she is stirring around a bit. She will be up and on the move very soon. Any plans for today?
I have to run a couple of errands today and that is about it. The coffee is good this morning and I had some leftovers from breakfast that we had yesterday. Sunday was a restful day for us. We watched a movie called "Season of the Witch" with Chris and he loved it. After Rosie arrived to care for Chris we went to the movies to see " Albert Nobbs" it was very good and very well done with a surprise ending.
Well, as promised here is what happened on our short stay in Silver City, New Mexico. Enjoy, we did!
22 Apr 12
We left the house at around 8:15am and we went to Gus Balones for breakfast. We got our usual and it was great. After breakfast we headed for Bookman's to buy a book on tape because the CD player in the Tacoma bit the dust and we may have to get a new one or a new Tacoma, smile!
The trip was uneventful and quick and we broke in our new GPS while we listened to the book on tape. We arrived in Silver City and we checked into the Palace Hotel a funky hotel right in downtown Silver City. It was built in 1882 and we loved it.
We are going to explore as soon as we relax with a few Jack and Cokes. We walked around downtown and we stopped at a couple of antique shops and looked around and in the windows of shops that were closed. We walked by several restaurants and we decided to stop at Mexican food place called "Jaliscos" the food was very good there. Elise had tacos, one made with shredded beef, one with hamburger and one with chicken. She also had rice and beans. I had enchiladas that were very spicy. The salsa and chips were very good hot. We both ordered a beer to get all of that food down. They did not make margaritas so we did not yell out Ole'. We also stopped in a shop called Lotta Gelato and we sat down and pigged out. Elise got lemon and I got butter pecan. Excellent! We returned to our room and watched TV and worked on crosswords before we called it a night.
23- Mar-12
We slept very well and got up at around 8:00am. I went down the hall to see what was being offered at the free continental breakfast buffet. It was not up to my protein quota as Elise calls it. So we walked over to "Nancy's Cafe" for breakfast. It was very good. Elise had "desanyo mexicano eggs, jalapenos, onions, salsa and refried beans with corn tortillas. I got the chorizo and eggs, with beans and flour tortillas. Once again the salsa was great.
After breakfast we walked through the "art' district and we went into a few galleries. One of the owners of a gallery was a woman from Berlin Art School.. Her work was very good , but it is very expensive! A tee shirt she did would cost you $125.00 and some of her painting were close to $10,000.00. A far cry from Wal Mart, eh?
We returned to our room for a short break before we headed out again. We got into the Tacoma and we headed for Glenwood, New Mexico. We went there to visit the famous "Cat Walk. It took about an hours drive to get there from Silver City. We walked the Cat Walk and it was great fun but we were a bit over dressed due to we went by what the weather was forecast to be and it was about 15 to 20 degrees warmer. We walked the Cat Walk for a total of 2.2 miles and it just about did us both in, smile! We gassed up the Tacoma at $3.89 per gallon and we headed back to Silver City with sore quads and feet.
We took a much need rest back at the Palace Hotel and of course a few Jack and Cokes were the right prescription to get rid of some of those ache and pains from the Cat Walk. At around 5:30pm or so we headed out for some dinner. We went to the "Buckhorn Saloon and Opera House in Pinos Altos, it is north of Silver City. Janice and Frank told us about it and man was it good. Elise got the Quail with spinach, and a baked potato. I got the ribeye , fries, and spinach. I have to tell you the spinach was really good. I don't know of anyone who raves about spinach but we did. We shared a bottle of red to get it down. For dessert we had coffee and chocolate mousse the was excellent and Elise compared it to some she has had in Europe. The dinner was a bit pricey, $106.00 but it was very good and we were on a mini-vacation, right? We returned to Silver City and we watched TV and we called it a night, a very good day.
24-Mar 12
I got up at 7:30am and Elise was still purring away with thoughts of the chocolate mousse I bet, smile! After Elise got herself in motion we went to "Vickie's" for breakfast about two blocks away from the hotel. Elise got the chili cheese omelet and I got the smoked sausages and eggs. I got the had browns and Elise got the home fries but they were under cooked. We walked back to the room and we were watching the John Wayne movie " The Searchers. Now we were packing up and getting ready to head back to Tucson. It was a very nice trip and we really enjoyed it but it was a short one that went by too fast.
