Good Morning,
Mood: Cautious
Music listening to: Do You Remember by Michael Jackson
How you doing on this Sunday morning? I started the day off at 4:00am tossing and turning having a hard time sleeping. Elise is away up in Phoenix with her Mom visiting friends. While there they attended a birthday party for a long time friend of hers. She will be back sometime this afternoon or early evening.
Chris is sound asleep. He has been under the weather with a cold but it is getting better. Do you have any plans for today? We had a very nice time in the Chiricauha Mountains and it was very restful. Here is a bit of what we did while we were there.
On 11 Mar 09 we departed after Brent arrive to care for Chris. We stopped at at Gus Balones to eat breakfast. Elise had a ham steak, eggs, hash browns and coffee. I had pork chops eggs, hash browns and coffee. We love the food at Gus Balones. Afterward we stopped at Davis Monthan Airbase to get gas, ice and a radio. We hope that we can pick up the basketball game between our Wildcats and ASU they will play on 12 Mar 09. Go Cat's!
We arrived at the cabin at around 1:30pm. We listened to a book on tape on the way and that made the time just fly by very fast. It is raining a bit but the sun is out and trying to stay visible. We unloaded the pick-up and we got settled in the cabin. We were hoping to take a walk to the Bathtub but we decided to get a campfire going instead because there was no gas in the tank for the stove. We got a nice fire going and we nibbled on stuffed jalapeno's and crackers. We also had a couple of Jack and cokes as well.
We continued to gather wood for the fire and then we put a grill over the fire pit and we cooked chile con carne with hot dogs. It was great and very good. We cleaned up the fire pit area and then we called it a night and it is only 8:00pm. We woke up at around 8:00am and that is very rare for us to get up so late. No it is time to get another fire going to fix breakfast. We feel like real pioneers. We got the fire going nicely and we prepared scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, orange juice and cowboy coffee. Let me tell you breakfast was excellent. The coffee was fantastic and nice and hot. Elise's Mom would have loved the coffee a lot.
We turned on the radio to see if we could find the station for the game but we had no luck at all. At around noon we went on a hike to the Bathtub. The trail has been washed out in several places, so it was hard to find it, but we finally did. I was full of water and beautiful site to see and the water was really cold. I know first hand because I stepped into it and got my hiking boots and socks soaked. We returned to the cabin and we took a drive so that we could pick up the basketball game and we finally did but we lost to ASU, but it was a good game.
We had a very nice dinner of hot dogs with the works and pork and beans and of course some more Jack and coke. We roasted some marshmellows for dessert and that was a treat. We cleaned up around the fire pit and we relaxed until we called it a night again at 8:00pm. We got up around 8:00am again it must be the mountain air that is doing strange things to us. Elise tossed and turned last night and she didn't sleep well and she had a hard time breathing. It may have been the pine trees or some of he flowers that we bothering her. We also took a short walk the night before and we watched to fire burn down until it got dark.
Again we were up and at it at 8:00am. We got the fire going and we had oatmeal with raisins that was very good.Elise also had bananas in hers. The coffee was so good. I guess it is something about brewing it over an open flame that really brings out the flavor. After breakfast I cleaned up the campsite and Elise was busy cleaning up inside of the cabin. We packed up the pick-up and we locked the cabin up tight and we headed to Douglas to pick-up Theresa to bring her back to Tucson with us. It was a very good trip and we enjoyed it very much.
We dropped Theresa off and we got home at around 3:00pm and we unloaded the pick-up. Later in the evening we went to eat dinner at Pinnacle Peak and we were joined by Elise's sister Ann. The food was excellent. We returned home and after Marv left I checked on Chris and I called it a night. Well, there you have it a wonderful trip but it is always nice to return home. I took a few photos and I made a short movie with Elise at the Bathtub. I will include some of the photos in my next entry. I hope that the movie comes out OK.
Cheers...........................
